Cornwall has a vibrant creative community, and the Solomon Browne Hall offers a great space for rehearsal, performance and exhibitions. We also regularly run creative workshops.
Mousehole artist Lizzie Black worked with us to run an online art class during the Covid-19 lockdowns, which provided a fantastic creative outlet for the participants. To make the classes as inclusive as possible, we offered places at a reduced cost for local residents on low incomes.
The Solomon Browne Hall is often used as a rehearsal space by Cornish creatives, including Seamus Carey who rehearsed his popular one man show “Help! I think I’m a Nationalist” in the Hall. The show went on to tour around Cornwall and further afield across the UK. The Hall was also used by comedy performers to rehearse in front of an audience for a BBC Radio 4 sit-com set in Cornwall. Participants in the Women Rising event, which highlights global violence against women, used the Hall to rehearse their flashmob dance.
For the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 we ran an innovative project with Miracle Theatre where local people who had an interest in developing a career in theatre and the arts created a special performance for a group of local older people who live alone.
To support local artists and raise funds for our community projects we run art auctions where proceeds are shared between the artists and our charity. We also host exhibitions for local artists and creatives.
When Cornwall hosted the G7 we hosted a free evening of short films made by local filmmakers in response to the G7 summit. This well attended evening gave the local filmmakers and actors an opportunity to engage with and discuss their work with the audience.
By attending our events or hiring the hall you are helping to fund our community projects. If you would like to make a donation you can do so here.
