Training, Skills and Supporting Local Businesses

We offer training to our staff and volunteers on everything from first aid to food hygiene. We also support small businesses through our farmers’ market and craft fair.

From Easter until October, we run a weekly Farmers’ Market on Wednesday mornings. With food produce stalls including fresh fish, baking, beef, vegetables and bread, the market offers a regular income for local small businesses, as well as proving popular with local residents and visitors.

The Mousehole Craft Fair runs two times each week from Easter to October and features a range of Cornish crafters and makers. The craft fair was particularly appreciated after the Coronavirus lockdowns, as it provided a vital source of income for small businesses that were struggling. Two of the traders are under 25 and the craft fair has given them an opportunity to develop their small businesses, with one of them reaching the Young Trader of the Year finals. Another trader has been able to go from a ‘hobbyist’ to starting a business.

We have given first aid (including defibrillator) training to our staff and volunteers, and food hygiene training. We are also offering mental first aid training to our staff and volunteers and pediatric specific first aid.

By attending our events or hiring the hall you are helping to fund our community projects. If you would like to make a donation you can do so here.

“The Solomon Browne Hall, through its support to Mousehole Craft fair has businesses with an invaluable opportunity to develop financial security, a support group, a learning space and somewhere to promote and raise awareness of not only their business but others too”.
Hannah Saint, Craft Fair Co-ordinator
